fusionthroughresonance is the blog of Saskia, anthropologist researching the world of audiovisual culture. Her fieldwork is based in Barcelona, her studies at the Australian National University.
The research focuses on the social significance of imagination and creativity, as the rapid advancements of information and communication technologies and new media in late capitalist societies have noticeably increased the amount and speed of various forms of information encountered in daily life. This constant mobility is arguably dissolving former, more solid social structures – hierarchical organization models are giving way to non-hierarchical, decentralised, ever-changing assemblies.
According to Arjun Appadurai, electronic mediation and mobility change these everyday subjectivities, working as forces that drive and restrict the work of imagination, a distinct social practice of various collectives amidst globalization.
