CALL FOR VIDEO SUBMISSIONS 30 DECEMBER, 2015
DEFIBRILLATOR GALLERY is now accepting proposals for our fifth annual RAPID PULSE INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART FESTIVAL to be held JUNE 1-5, 2016. Marking our five-year anniversary, Rapid Pulse will depart from our usual template which aims to nurture and reflect on the exchange of new experiences. We continue to focus on contextualizing performance within visual art by representing a wide range of styles and forms of time-based expression. RAPID PULSE 2016 will present dynamic programming, decidedly fearless and unique, that provokes thought and stimulates discourse surrounding performance art. This year we celebrate the importance of the number five, having condensed the festival into a five day program with five distinct events each day.
We aim to present a mixture of International, local, and national artists, however, because of the condensed scale of the 2016 festival, we will only accept a very limited number of proposals that fit within a set structure. Preference will be given to work meeting the following criteria:
- Performances of thirty minutes or less in the main gallery.
- Durational work lasting three or more hours in our window, viewed from the street.
- In Situ performances outside a gallery context.
RAPID PULSE is also taking applications for our video series through a separate open call.
We regret that RAPID PULSE is not able to pay artist fees or travel expenses. However, We will provide five nights of accommodation, two daily meals, free unlimited beverages, and some assistance with materials. Accepted artists will also receive photo and video documentation (before leaving the festival) and a printed catalog*. The curatorial committee for RAPID PULSE LIVE PERFORMANCES 2016 consists of Assistant Festival Director, Giana Gambino; and Defibrillator Founder and Director, Joseph Ravens. Additional input by our Curatorial Advisory Committee consisting of Steven Bridges and Julie Laffin.
DEADLINE is MIDNIGHT 30 DECEMBER, 2015 (North American Central Standard Time). Proposals must be submitted electronically through THIS LINK : (http://goo.gl/forms/nyLUZJn3UF). We will notify applicants by JANUARY 15, 2016 and announce the roster on APRIL 1, 2016. Artists who have been in previous editions of Rapid Pulse may apply but priority is given to those who we have not yet presented. Contact gianagambino@rapidpulse.org with questions.
