Call for Papers IFLA Audiovisual and Multimedia Section 2016
The Audiovisual and Multimedia Section, Information Technology and Cataloguing Sections invite to submit abstracts for IFLA WLIC 2016 (Columbus, Ohio, USA, 13-19 August 2016).
The Session will focus on the theme: Improvement of the discoverability of AV and Multimedia by transforming raw data into linked open data.
The IFLA Audiovisual and Multimedia Section (AVMS), Information Technology and Cataloguing Sections invite proposals for papers to be presented at their joint session on Improvement of the discoverability of AV and Multimedia by transforming raw data into linked open data during the IFLA World Library and Information Congress in Columbus, Ohio, USA, 13-19 August 2016.
Linked Open Data (LOD) has become a prevalent and advantageous method for publishing and managing data from libraries and related organizations on the web. Linked Open Data involves the identification, machine-readability and linking of data within and between data sets. Data items in these data sets are identified by and accessible via HTTP URIs. Weaving metadata into the LOD cloud makes them better accessible and discoverable, and facilitates their integration in different scenarios. The accessibility of metadata determines the visibility of both the described content and the institution that provides the data. The process of storing, sorting, and presenting media in libraries around the globe therefore benefits significantly from the utilization of the usage of LOD and Semantic Web technologies.
In this open session we would like to view substantial LOD developments relevant to audiovisual and multimedia, and to foster the exchange of ideas and experiences among practitioners. This includes best practice and use cases from different domains such as arts and humanities, research, science and technology, and cultural heritage.
This might include:
- usage of data models
- semantic annotation
- weaving audiovisual and multimedia content into web of data
- issues in using subject and genre authority files as LOD datasets
- linkage between resources
- legal issues
- reusage of LOD sets
The deadline for submission of abstracts is 31 January 2016.
